Back to blogging after a pretty long gap I believe.I guess its because I was getting used to some changes in my life.
So here's to start:
I've watched a couple of excellent movies lately in all languages. Some movies which made me too happy like 'Rise of the gaurdians' ; some movies that touched me like 'Jab tak hein jaan' and some movies that thrilled me like 'Argo' and 'Pizza'[tamil].
But the movie I watched last night - It was BEAUTIFUL. KADAL[sea]
Even though this guy[Mani Rathnam] makes movies over big gaps, he makes them potentially Classic. He makes them like giving himself a DEFINITION. I've never been able to appreciate a movie with a rural setup - Something always looked unreal, something felt low, felt like deterring depiction. But i think his movies have had the potential to impose a positive impact upon audience. Who would not like his movies like - Thalapathy , Bombay , Nayagan , Guru , Mouna Raagam and Raavan ? Even if there are so many controversies behind most of his releases - i think his movie products are absolutely sensible.
[This is an absolutely irrelevant paragraph in the post, but I still wanted to express this]
Looks like, with directors like him and audience like me who profusely admire his work, it gets difficult to appreciate movies by other directors. Cant quite comment if this a good thing, but still thats my opinion.
I've stopped watching movies by Gautham Menon .Even though his movies are unique, revolutionary and strong[same genre as Mani Rathnam] , they inflict too much pain on the audience. I've never felt refreshed or happy after watching any of his movies. Do you think that Mani Rathnam audience will enjoy Gautham Menons works?
Back to praising Kadal - Some of Kadal's highlights -
"A" Class movie - the reason why his movies deserve this credit is because he portrays Rural India so beautifully and with ELEGANCE. I think , no other director has ever been able to do that.
Cinematography - this guy is awesome -especially after watching Guru and Ravanan I think he's ultimate . Even if there are directors like Shankar and Vasu who have done good job in this aspect, its still not very appealing .
Awesome A.R Rahman music - liked it in one go[after a long time - for reference on my past opinions please refer to old posts]!Even though all songs are superb, I personally liked Magudi - Racy with the perfect video.[except the female echo's that creeped me out]. There was something very different about the music in this movie , by that I only mean it was BRILLIANT!
Adiye choreography - UNIQUE and IMPRESSIVE . Even though this was the only song with a good choreography, I feel they nailed it.
Hero-Villian climax - I mean who would have thought of it. Okay maybe some of you did, but I didnt. I was like 'Yay, thomas!!'*clap hands*.
Aravind Swamy's comeback [ even though he's not the Thalapathy guy we all gazed at, he's still adorable here ].
The 5 minutes before and after the 'Moongil Thottam' song were wonderfulll - Epic portions [according to me]!
Mani Rathnam has the nerve to introduce new actors. And trust me, they are pretty good for their first movies.Looks like he moulds people into their characters.
Overall after a very hard week, this movie soothed me in 3 hours, like some 'Calm down' process . :D I felt so happy and different.
Now, for you my friend dont go looking for something strong in this movie like Nayagan or Thalapathy. But get ready to 'Just Feel Good.
