"Urvasi Urvasi take it easy Urvasi" was my first favorite song of ARR.(loved it even more with the video). N that was my intro to ARR's music. So i had to wheel back to listen to his older songs.Figured out that "Chinna Chinna Aasai" was a marvel .I didnt happen to understand the lyrics back then,so i'm sure its the music that gripped me(and i didnt like that voice).And u ppl remember 'Veerapandi Kotayyile'...What beatsssss man...my heart just thumps to that music...There just cant be anyone who hasn tried dancing for 'Antha Arabic kadaloram'.. I Heard Rangeela for the first time at a frankie shop in Mumbai and couldnt stand still,was already nodding my head :D
Now mentioning some of his heart warming tracks like his Saxophonic instrumentation from Duet , transitional tunes in 'Malargale' ,'Mel iseye' etc etc. He's got his way :).....
Thilana Thilana was one song that would be played in just about any Indian restaurant(in any part of the world..i have proof :))...Taal was fab!!
So moving forward in time. Alaipayuthey , Lagaan and Boys had some Good songs.(okay i dont know the infamous ones :-| )And then what next??? NOTHING BIG. :(
Which means since 2000 ARR has not been doing so well..The songs i ve mentioned above are a fraction of his Bests.His latest biggies were Rang de basanti,Delhi 6 and Guru.
And now whoever in the world likes 'Manipaaya'(from Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa) and "Usure Poghudey" (from Ravanan) . You oughta be kidding me...Please can i remind u that this music was made by the same guy who made the above mentioned and other better songs. He's loosing it...And no one wants to agree. On top of things, people tell me nowadays that it takes some time to like ARRs songs...Like hellooooo, its always taken me only one go to like his songs...So stop blanketing..Just admit that ARRs not as good as before..rather not even half as good as before....
Now my question is why do people still like ARR so much??..Prejudice becoz his past masterpieces ??...Or do u really think his current works r still good ...or what? i dont get it. and i really have to know ..So Somebody explain.
P.S: This post means no offence to him or his music. It just that i'm a little disappointed about my opinion difference :D

ReplyDeleteI agree that his songs now does not have that much impact as how it had before. But I think he still make awesome music. He has to have varieties, he cant be playing the same stuff. So some times the songs might not be as good as the ones before, but he still has talent, which means there might be something else in the song which you could appreciate.
For instance, the song 'Aromale' is my favorite. It has a beautiful malayalam lyrics, with a psychedelic genre and a part in bageshri raaga, which brings to me an amazing feeling. This song might not have that much an impact as the older ones, yet its very very nice to listen.

ReplyDelete@Anish:Hmmm...I couldnt quite believe that Aromale was ARR's .But yeah it was appreciably different.(Cowboy music Indian style :D).Somehow i didnt like it.[I'd probably give it another try :)]...Yes you have the point he still posesses the talent and i'm waiting for some better music :)
